The ineffective rituals

Islam stands on five obligatory rituals; these are called the pillars of Islam. Hajj is known as the 5th pillar. Those who can afford the necessary expanses it is mandatory on them. In the holy Qur’an it is revealed: “And Hajj is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, upon everyone who can afford the expenses; (and) whoever disbelieves then Allah stands not in need of anyone of the worlds.”–(Sura Al-Imran, verse 97). Therefore, whoever believes in Allah Sub’hana wa Ta’la and has the ability to bear the expenses must perform Hajj. And whoever denies hajj despite his affordability is indeed a disbeliever. Other four obligatory rituals are: standing as witness (shahadah) to oneness of Allah Sub’hana wa Ta’la and declaring allegiance to prophet Muhammad (sallAllahu alaihis salam) as His servant and prophet; offering daily five times salah (prayers); month-long fasting in Ramadan and paying annual zakat.

The unending crisis

The Muslim world is now in the grip of an overwhelming crisis. Not only in politics, it has engulfed religious beliefs, ideology, spirituality, culture, education, defence – in fact, all arenas of Muslims’ life. Day by day, the crisis is deepening and getting a catastrophic dimension. It shows no exit way. Rather it looks the Muslims have totally lost the direction. Every disease has a distinctive cause, the disease process and the pathology. The same is with the crisis. The current crisis of the Muslims largely owes to the huge deviation from the Islamic roadmap revealed in the holy Qur’an. The long occupation by the colonialist kuffars has done a great harm by aggravating the deviation. To destroy any potential of the recovery, the coalition of the same Western colonialists has also imposed a long decimating war. In the ongoing US-led war, more than 99% deaths and destruction are taking place in Muslim countries. Hence, there remains little doubt that the ongoing war of the global coalition is not against any person or party but on Islam. It is exactly designed to inflict maximum damage to the Muslims’ traditional power base and stem any chance of Islam’s resurgence.

The crisis in moral immunity

Every man and woman has to live in a physical as well an ideological environment. Both the environments are infested with serious killer diseases. The physical illness kills the body; and the ideological illness kills the soul. Cholera, typhoid, pneumonia, malaria, cancer, stroke, AIDS are the examples of a few among numerous physical illnesses. Paganism, idolatry, atheism, racism, secularism, nationalism, fascism, materialism, colonialism, imperialism are the example of some grave ideological diseases.  The physical illness doesn’t take one to the hellfire, but the ideological illness certainly does. And the most crucial difference lies in the severity and longevity of the suffering. The physical illness may cause extreme pain and agonies, and at the worst can predispose to early death. But such pain and agonies entirely end at death. On the other hand, the pain of the ideological or spiritual illness truly starts after the death; and never dies out. It takes the diseased to the hellfire for an endless period. Can a man with sanity and wisdom ignore or pay blind eye to such a fateful issue of moral disease? In fact, a man’s real blindness or deafness is proven by such a blind approach to such a serious issue. For this type of morally sick people, Allah Sub’hana wa Ta’la has special narrative: “Deaf, dumb and blind, therefore they do not return (to the Truth)” –(Sura Baqara verse 18). Hence, the prognosis of such moral illness is very poor; if not cured, takes the victim to the hellfire.

The planning for the failure

Those who can’t plan for success, they plan only for failure. For failure, one need not seek any knowledge or skill; it thrives amidst ignorance. And the failure is about the eternal failure in the hereafter. The seed of such infinite failure is sowed during the short worldly life. Manufacturing such failure runs epidemic in the modern world. It is the moral and spiritual failure of the mankind. And it owes to cataclysmic obliviousness of the eternal hereafter. Nothing can be more damaging and pathogenic than such ignorance. While intoxicated with such ignorance, people lose the ability to foresee the ultimate fate or destination of the life. As a result, infinite life after death stays out of their sight. Such ignorance can even flourish in colleges, universities and research institutions; the modern civilisation is a testimony to that. While people lose faith in hereafter, they also lose interest in the roadmap (siratul mustaqeem) that take to paradise. The ignorant man then gleefully takes the roadmap to hellfire. This is the ultimate calamity of ignorance.

Planning for the hereafter

For any gain, it needs good planning and its full execution. In life, no gain is effort-free, pain-free or cost-free. People work hard, invest money, spend long years, and even fight bloody wars for worldly gains. But such gains are very short-lived. Sometimes one may not achieve any gain either; all efforts and sacrifices may lead only to loss, failure, death or disaster. But loss or failure in the worldly life is nothing in comparison to loss and failure in the endless life in the hereafter. In worldly life, even extreme pain or sufferings end at some point, at least at death. But pain and suffering never die in hellfire. Hence nothing is more crucial than saving souls from hellfire. Hence no planning is more important than planning for the hereafter; and no preparation is more rewarding than preparation for the infinite life there.
